Python Developer
Location: Ipswich - Hybrid - 3 days per week onsite
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Rate: £420 per day inside IR35
Duration: 12 months initially
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Python Developer to develop and maintain automation solutions, backend services and tooling supporting large-scale telecom network operations. Working closely with QA, Network Engineering and DevOps teams, you will build REST APIs, automation scripts and data-driven applications that improve testing, monitoring and operational efficiency across 5G and enterprise platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Python-based automation frameworks and scripts for testing, data processing and operational workflows.
- Build RESTful APIs using Flask or FastAPI.
- Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Redis.
- Develop and maintain Docker-based applications and environments.
- Support CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD.
- Write Linux shell scripts and manage deployments on Linux servers.
- Integrate with telecom network systems and APIs for validation, monitoring and health checks.
- Implement logging, monitoring and error-handling solutions.
- Collaborate with QA, Network Engineering and DevOps teams to deliver scalable automation solutions.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- 4+ years of Python development experience in automation or backend development.
- Experience building REST APIs with Flask or FastAPI.
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS and Jinja2.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Strong Linux administration and Bash scripting skills.
- Docker and Docker Compose experience.
- Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD experience.
- Experience with Git version control.
- Knowledge of Python libraries including requests, paramiko, subprocess, schedule and pandas.
- Understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH and API integrations.

Desirable:
- Telecom or network automation experience, including 4G Core or 5G environments.
- Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka.
- OpenStack and Infrastructure-as-Code knowledge.
- Pytest, Selenium or Playwright experience.
- Grafana, ELK Stack or Prometheus knowledge.
- Agile or Scrum experience.
