World Wide Technology (WWT) - Python Software Engineer
World Wide Technology (WWT) has an opportunity for a Python Software Engineer to join a team building configuration management software for a large-scale private cloud platform within a leading financial services organisation. This is a hands-on development role, not an SRE or infrastructure automation position. You'll help re-architect existing software as the platform evolves toward a zoned, enclave-based network model, while keeping performance and reliability intact.
This is a contract role, inside IR35, for 12 months with 3 days per week in the office in Glasgow.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain production-grade Python applications.
- Re-architect software to support evolving network zone models.
- Design scalable software for large, distributed infrastructure.
- Resolve issues and optimise performance in production.
- Integrate systems across the platform.
- Apply strong engineering practices across the development lifecycle.
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
