Senior Python Developer – Trading or Risk
Hybrid in Central London | Inside IR35 | Up to £700 per day
We are seeking Senior Python Developers with proven experience developing systems within either Trading or Risk in an investment banking or capital markets environment.
You will build and enhance Python applications, backend services and data processing solutions supporting front-office trading or risk management functions. This is an opportunity to work closely with traders, quants, risk teams and other technology stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance Python applications supporting trading or risk platforms.
- Build data pipelines and automation for financial workflows.
- Process large financial datasets for trading analytics, PnL, risk calculations or reporting.
- Contribute to system architecture, scalability and performance optimisation.
- Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services.
- Collaborate with traders, quants, risk teams and other technology stakeholders.
- Maintain code quality through testing, code reviews and development best practices.
- Support the ongoing enhancement of critical financial systems.

Required Skills
- Strong Core Python development experience.
- Proven experience developing systems within either Trading or Risk in investment banking or capital markets.
- Experience with enterprise financial platforms, such as Quartz, SecDB, Athena, Kanon, Beacon or similar.
- Strong SQL skills and experience handling large financial datasets.
- Experience with Pandas and NumPy.
- REST API development using Flask, FastAPI or Django.
- Understanding of performance optimisation and scalable systems.
- Unix/Linux and shell scripting experience.

Domain Experience
Candidates must have experience in at least two of the following areas:
Trading: Front-office trading systems, trading workflows, trade lifecycle or trading analytics.
Risk: Market Risk, Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR), PnL, risk calculations, risk reporting or reconciliations.
Capital Markets: Experience working with financial instruments such as derivatives, swaps, futures, options or fixed-income products.
Desirable
- PySpark or distributed data processing.
- Exposure to quantitative models or pricing systems.
- Experience within a global investment bank.
Please note: Candidates must have relevant Trading, Risk or Capital Markets experience within investment banking. Strong Python developers without relevant financial services domain experience will not be considered.
