About The Role
Hays Technology is currently seeking a highly skilled Platform DevOps Engineer to support a major public-sector technology portfolio focused on transforming UK immigration, visa, passport, and related services. This role is integral to enhancing and maintaining a large-scale, cloud-based platform used by UK Home Office staff, overseas consulates, and applicants. As a SFIA Level 5 Python and Go engineer, you will be responsible for developing backend systems, automation tooling, microservices, APIs, and cloud integrations. The position offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic, agile environment, collaborating with multiple development teams and cloud service providers to deliver innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a current active SC clearance, which is mandatory for this position. You should have extensive commercial experience in Python development, particularly in building backend systems, automation tools, microservices, and APIs. Proficiency in Go programming, including concurrent applications, CLI tools, and REST APIs, is essential. Strong knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, along with experience automating infrastructure provisioning and managing cloud resources, is required. Familiarity with enterprise directories like OpenLDAP and Active Directory, as well as secure secrets management using HashiCorp Vault, is highly desirable. Additionally, experience automating processes within JIRA and Confluence, and working with Kubernetes API for deployment automation and cluster management, will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, version control using Git, and quality assurance tools for both Python and Go.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services, automation tools, microservices, and APIs utilizing Python and Go.
- Create efficient, scalable, and concurrent applications and command-line tools.
- Integrate automation solutions with AWS services using boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2, automating cloud resource management and infrastructure provisioning.
- Manage and secure IAM roles, credentials, and service integrations, ensuring compliance with security standards.
- Implement integrations with enterprise directories such as OpenLDAP and Active Directory.
- Automate secrets management, including retrieval and renewal processes using HashiCorp Vault.
- Streamline workflows by automating tasks, ticket creation, and documentation processes within JIRA and Confluence.
- Utilize Kubernetes API for deployment automation, pod management, and cluster inspection to ensure smooth operations.
- Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests to validate solutions, incorporating testing best practices into CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews, branching strategies, and release processes using Git, fostering a collaborative development environment.
- Share knowledge and contribute to the capability development of the wider delivery team, promoting continuous improvement and best practices.

This position offers a remote contract opportunity supporting a high-profile public-sector technology platform. The role provides a competitive daily rate of up to 617.55 via UMB, with a contract duration of six months. The role is inside IR35, ensuring compliance with UK tax regulations.
