About The Role
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to join a major public-sector technology project supporting UK immigration, visa, passport, and related services. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale, mission-critical platform that enhances government service delivery through innovative cloud and automation solutions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing backend systems, automation tooling, microservices, and APIs, primarily utilizing Python and Go. The position requires active SC clearance due to the sensitive nature of the work and the need to operate within secure government environments. The role involves collaborating with multiple development teams and cloud service providers within an agile framework aligned with government IT policies, ensuring seamless integration and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, security clearance, and a proactive mindset. Essential qualifications include current active SC clearance, demonstrating eligibility to work within secure government environments. Candidates should have extensive experience in Python development, including building backend systems, automation tools, and APIs. Proficiency in Go programming, especially in developing concurrent applications, CLI tools, and REST APIs, is required. Strong knowledge of AWS services, such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, along with experience automating cloud resource management, is essential. Familiarity with enterprise directory services like OpenLDAP and Active Directory, as well as secure secrets management using HashiCorp Vault, is also necessary. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience with Kubernetes API automation, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems like Git. A solid understanding of Python and Go testing frameworks, quality tools, and best practices in code review and release management will be highly valued.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services, automation tools, microservices, and APIs using Python and Go.
- Create efficient, scalable, and concurrent applications and command-line tools to support operational needs.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and cloud resource management using AWS SDKs and tools such as boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2.
- Integrate applications with AWS services including EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, ensuring secure and seamless operations.
- Manage IAM roles, credentials, and secure service integrations to uphold security standards.
- Work with enterprise directory services like OpenLDAP and Active Directory to facilitate authentication and authorization processes.
- Automate secret management workflows, including retrieval and renewal of tokens and secrets using HashiCorp Vault.
- Streamline workflows by automating ticket creation and documentation processes within JIRA and Confluence platforms.
- Utilize Kubernetes API to automate deployment pipelines, manage pods, and monitor cluster health.
- Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests for Python and Go solutions, ensuring code quality and reliability.
- Implement testing, linting, and code-quality checks into CI/CD pipelines to maintain high standards of software delivery.
- Participate in branching, code review, and release processes using Git, promoting best practices in version control.
- Share knowledge and contribute to the continuous improvement of team capabilities and technical expertise.
