Python Developer
Industry: Investment Banking
Location: Glasgow
Contract: Initial 12 month contract
Working Model: Hybrid - 3 days in the office
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Python Developer to join our client, a major US Investment Bank, working in their engineering and infrastructure team in Glasgow on an initial 12 months contract.
This role focuses on developing production-grade Python applications, automation frameworks, and reusable software solutions to support infrastructure operations, deployment, monitoring, and preventative maintenance.
Strong Python development experience is essential. Storage experience is advantageous but not required, as training will be provided for candidates with the right Python and software engineering background.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain production-grade Python applications, automation frameworks, and reusable software components.
- Build automation and pipelines supporting infrastructure deployment, patching, monitoring, alerting, and capacity management.
- Integrate Python solutions with infrastructure, storage platforms, APIs, and third-party systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable and highly available technical solutions.
- Develop automation for problem management and preventative maintenance using software engineering and SDLC best practices.
- Troubleshoot issues across Python applications, Linux, and infrastructure environments within a global engineering team.

Key Skills & Experience
- Advanced hands-on Python development experience, including production applications and automation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, software engineering principles, and SDLC best practices.
- Experience with automation, CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, and system integration.
- Knowledge of SQL and database technologies.
- Good working knowledge of Linux/RHEL environments is highly desirable.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is advantageous.
- Enterprise storage experience (IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS, SAN, NAS, NFS, or iSCSI) is desirable but not essential. Training can be provided.
