Main purpose
We are looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join our Gas, Power & Renewables (GPR) Technology team. You will be a core member of a small, high-impact engineering group embedded within a broader team of quants, analysts, traders, and deal desk professionals.
Your primary focus will be building risk solutions for the Power and Gas trading desk on top of Beacon Platform. This is a 100% hands-on development role — you will own the full development lifecycle, from gathering requirements directly with traders and stakeholders through to delivering production-quality solutions.
This role will work directly with the trading desk. Candidates who have previously worked in a trading floor environment will be familiar with the pace and communication style, and will have a natural advantage.
You will be joining a well-resourced, commercially active team at the centre of one of the most dynamic areas of the energy markets. The role offers direct exposure to complex trading activity, close collaboration with quants and traders, and the opportunity to build solutions that have immediate, measurable impact on the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
