About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Python Engineer to join our client's dynamic team within the banking and financial services sector. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance Python applications that support critical banking operations and AI-driven solutions. The successful candidate will work within an Agile environment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and reliable software solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to innovative projects in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. The position is offered on a 12-month contract basis, with hybrid working arrangements and an attractive daily rate within the specified range.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, industry experience, and a proactive attitude. Essential qualifications include:
- Proven experience in Python development, with a strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
- Proficiency in SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server, with the ability to write complex queries and optimize database performance.
- Hands-on experience working within Linux environments, including scripting with Bash and deploying applications.
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly GIT, including branching strategies and pull request workflows.
- Experience using Agile project management tools like JIRA to manage tasks, sprints, and project tracking efficiently.
- Knowledge of testing frameworks including TDD, BDD (Behave), and unit testing with PyTest.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- A self-starter mindset with the capability to lead and mentor junior team members effectively.
- Previous experience working within the banking or financial services industry is essential, providing an understanding of sector-specific requirements and compliance standards.

Responsibilities
As a Python Engineer, your core responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and optimizing Python-based applications to ensure high performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
- Working extensively with large SQL databases by designing schemas, writing efficient queries, and maintaining data integrity.
- Managing application deployment and operational tasks in Linux environments, utilizing scripting and automation techniques to streamline processes.
- Implementing version control best practices using GIT, including managing branches, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Participating actively in Agile workflows, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives via JIRA or similar tools.
- Troubleshooting and resolving performance issues, bugs, and system errors to ensure seamless operation of applications.
- Mentoring junior developers, promoting best coding practices, and encouraging the adoption of emerging technologies and methodologies.
- Engaging in data analysis to support decision-making processes and improve application functionality.
