Job Opportunity: Python Engineer - Banking Sector - Inside IR35/Hybrid working

Are you a talented Python Engineer ready to make a significant impact in the banking industry? Our client, a leading organisation in financial services, is seeking a dedicated Senior Python Engineer to join their dynamic team on a contract basis. This exciting opportunity focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance applications and implementing AI-driven solutions.

Contract Details

  • Position: Python Engineer
  • Contract Length: 12 months
  • Daily Rate: £600.00 - £630.00 (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities

As a Python Engineer, you will:

  • Design, develop, and optimise Python-based applications, ensuring code is clean, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Work with large SQL databases - designing schemas, optimising queries, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Manage and deploy applications in Linux environments, utilising scripting and automation techniques.
  • Use GIT for version control.
  • Operate within JIRA-based Agile workflows to effectively manage tasks, sprints, and project tracking.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks, application bugs, and system issues.
  • Mentor junior developers, promoting coding best practises and the adoption of emerging technologies.

Must-Have Skills

To thrive in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Strong experience in Python development with a solid understanding of OOP and software design principles.
  • Proficient SQL skills (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server) to handle complex queries and optimise databases.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux environments, including bash scripting and application deployment.
  • Proficiency in GIT, showcasing familiarity with branching strategies, code versioning, and pull requests.
  • Experience with Agile project management tools, preferably JIRA.
  • Knowledge of Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD/Behave), and Unit Testing (PyTest).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, paired with excellent communication skills.
  • A self-starter attitude with the capability to lead technical teams effectively.
  • Prior experience in a banking or financial services context is essential.
