About The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Python / Applied AI Engineer to join our client’s dynamic team on a contract basis for a duration of three months. This remote position offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects, specifically focusing on building and enhancing AI chatbots using Python and LlamaIndex. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing production-grade AI applications, improving retrieval and document search processes, and extending LlamaIndex functionalities to support organizational goals. This role requires a strong background in Python development, hands-on experience with LlamaIndex, and a proven track record in delivering robust RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) and large language model applications in a production environment.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in Python, with experience in Python 3.12+ being essential. Proven expertise in developing scalable AI applications and working with LlamaIndex or similar RAG frameworks is required. Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI APIs, and vector search technologies such as Typesense will be advantageous. Candidates should have a good understanding of database management, preferably PostgreSQL, and experience with data validation and modeling using Pydantic. Additionally, experience with data visualization tools like Plotly Dash and integrating structured data sources into AI workflows is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver well-documented, reliable code are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and enhancing production-grade Python AI applications, with a focus on chatbot capabilities.
- Building and refining RAG pipelines, improving document retrieval and search functionalities.
- Extending LlamaIndex agents, workflows, retrievers, and tool-calling features.
- Integrating large language models, APIs, databases, and organizational data to create seamless AI solutions.
- Ensuring the quality, accuracy, security, and performance of AI responses.
- Implementing citations and enhancing reliability.
- Delivering thoroughly tested and well-documented code.
- Supporting technical handovers.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives and timelines.
