Python Software Engineer with Java OR Ruby skills

The Python Software Engineer role involves contributing to projects aimed at reducing the company's cost per hire by building tools that streamline the acquisition funnel. The position offers a dynamic environment focused on large-scale system design, migration, and process optimisation within a technical and collaborative setting.

Role Overview

The Python Software Engineer will work on migrating data models, decommissioning parts of a Rails monolith, and developing scalable, maintainable backend APIs. This role requires managing stakeholders and guiding teams through complex technical projects, ensuring code quality and system reliability. The successful candidate will also document system architecture and work closely with third-party vendors.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Drive requirements and ownership of large, complex projects or systems
  • Manage stakeholders across multiple projects and communicate proactively
  • Guide teams through designing and building large, reusable systems
  • Ensure systems are simple, maintainable, and scalable
  • Own and lead on mono- or polyglot development projects, especially in Python/Django and Ruby on Rails, Rust or Java
  • Build and maintain backend APIs and integrations with third-party vendors
  • Lead code reviews ensuring standards for cleanliness, reliability, and functionality
  • Document system architecture, API specifications, and deployment procedures
  • Monitor system performance and maintain observability tools

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to reducing Cost per hire by building automation tools and migration strategies

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Relevant experience Software Engineering in Python/Django, Ruby on Rails, Java, or Rust
  • Demonstrated polyglot programming ability and willingness to adapt to new code bases
  • Experience with React frontend development, database design (Postgres, MySQL, Redis)
  • Ability to leverage coding agents and AI advancements to improve delivery efficiency
  • Experience with API development, system migration, and code reviews
  • Ability to work remotely during the contract period
