QA Engineer – Manual Testing

Up to £40,000 + Benefits

Preston | Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days from home

Permanent

We’re partnering with a large, established international organisation looking to add a QA Engineer to the technology team responsible for one of its core business-critical platforms.

This is a great opportunity for a junior-to-mid-level QA Engineer who already has commercial testing experience and wants more ownership, exposure to complex software and the opportunity to develop within a sizeable Product & Engineering environment.

The Role

You’ll join a dedicated Platform team responsible for the quality and reliability of a major enterprise software platform.

The platform is heavily enhanced, customised and integrated with a wider technology ecosystem, with new functionality introduced regularly.

Your role will be to make sure those changes work – not simply in isolation, but across the wider system.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Manual and functional testing of new features
  • End-to-end testing across multiple systems
  • Regression testing
  • Testing integrations between the core platform and internal systems
  • Creating and executing effective test scenarios
  • Identifying defects, edge cases and unexpected behaviours
  • Working closely with Software Engineers, QAs and other technology stakeholders
  • Contributing to improvements in testing processes and quality
  • Developing your exposure to automation and modern AI-enabled testing practices

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What They’re Looking For

This is predominantly a manual QA position. You do not need to be an Automation Engineer.

The hiring manager is far more interested in finding someone with a genuine QA mindset.

They want somebody naturally curious about software – someone who doesn't simply follow a test script, but thinks:

“What else could break here?”

You’ll ideally have:

  • Commercial Software QA / Testing experience
  • Strong manual testing fundamentals
  • Experience with Jira and/or Azure DevOps
  • Understanding of regression and end-to-end testing
  • Experience working with test cases and defect management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to identify edge cases and think beyond predefined scenarios
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach

Formal QA certifications are useful but not essential. Practical experience, attitude and analytical ability matter more.

Why Join?

You’ll be working on a business-critical technology platform within an established international organisation, while joining a relatively small QA function where your contribution will genuinely be noticed.

There is also plenty of scope to develop.

The immediate requirement is predominantly manual QA, but the wider testing landscape is evolving through automation, AI and modern engineering tooling, and they want people interested in developing alongside it.
