JOB TITLE

QA Tester

Ideally based in Edinburgh or Glasgow but would consider Aberdeen or Inverness.

This role supports a hybrid working arrangement.

REPORTING TO

Head of Data & Engineering

JOB PURPOSE

To establish and lead the quality assurance testing function within the Innovation & Technology (I&T) team, ensuring that software products and systems meet the required standards of quality before release. The QA Tester will work closely with the firm’s development teams and product owners to define acceptance criteria, plan and execute manual tests, and play a key role in the firm's transition towards automated testing practices.

CORE TASKS

  • Work collaboratively with .NET and local development teams to understand development requirements and provide quality assurance support
  • Partner with product owners to define and document acceptance criteria for scheduled and planned work items
  • Plan, design and execute manual test cases, test scripts and test plans across a range of software applications and platforms, with a primary focus on the Microsoft Dynamics platform
  • Identify, log, track and manage defects through to resolution, ensuring issues are clearly documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders
  • Perform regression, functional, integration and user acceptance testing to validate software quality throughout the development lifecycle
  • Collaborate with developers and product owners to reproduce, investigate and resolve defects, ensuring timely delivery of quality software
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback on software quality to development teams and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of automated testing frameworks and tools as the team transitions towards automated testing practices
  • Continuously review and improve QA processes, standards and methodologies within the I&T team

Be aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working in a QA or software testing role
  • Proven experience in manual testing, including the design and execution of test plans, test cases and defect tracking
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, engaging effectively with developers, product owners and other stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical and detail-oriented approach to testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document and communicate testing outcomes clearly
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a hybrid working environment
  • Degree qualified in an IT, Computer Science or Science-related subject, or equivalent experience gained through an apprenticeship or vocational route
  • Experience working within a legal environment or with legal software would be beneficial, though not essential
  • Experience with automated testing platforms would be an advantage
  • A qualification relating to the Microsoft Power Platform or Microsoft Dynamics is beneficial, though not essential

SKILLS

  • Proficiency in manual testing methodologies and test case management
  • Experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps or equivalent)
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and/or the Microsoft Power Platform
  • Familiarity with automated testing tools and frameworks
  • Ability to define and interpret technical specifications and translate them into structured test scenarios in collaboration with product owners
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple test cycles and priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, quality-focused approach to work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across development and product teams
