Your new company

You will be working for a known organisation. This day rate is £600 per day inside IR35 and it's fully remote.

Your new role

The QAD Solution Engineer is responsible for the hands-on development, maintenance, and technical support of our enterprise QAD ERP system. In this role, you will write code, maintain databases, and support integrations with SAP. You will leverage your technical skills in Progress 4GL/ABL and SQL to ensure high system availability, troubleshoot bugs, and deliver functional enhancements to the business.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Development & Customization

  • Coding: Develop and customize QAD ERP applications using Progress 4GL/ABL to meet business requirements.
  • Database Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, querying, and schema changes on Progress OpenEdge and SQL databases.
  • Interface Support: Maintain and troubleshoot existing data pipelines and middleware integrations connecting QAD and SAP.

System Support & Troubleshooting

  • Issue Resolution: Act as the Level 2/3 technical support for system bugs, data discrepancies, and application failures.
  • SQL Reporting: Write and optimize SQL queries, scripts, and views to generate custom operational reports and extract data.
  • Testing: Create technical test plans, execute unit testing, and support users during User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Collaboration & Documentation (Grade C1/C2 Expectations)

  • Technical Documentation: Author and maintain detailed technical specifications, code documentation, and database schemas.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with business analysts and SAP team members to map data fields and resolve integration issues.
  • Deployment Support: Assist the Solution Lead with patch applications, system upgrades, and code deployments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • QAD Experience: 3 to 6 years of technical experience with QAD ERP modules (e.g., Manufacturing, Distribution, or Finance).
  • Progress DB / 4GL: Solid programming experience in Progress 4GL/ABL (both character-based and GUI/chui environments) and Progress OpenEdge databases.
  • SQL Skills: Good proficiency in writing SQL queries, working with relational databases (MS SQL or Oracle), and understanding database connections.
  • SAP Awareness: Basic understanding of SAP architecture and common integration methods (e.g., IDocs, RFCs, or API web services).
  • Reporting: Experience using reporting tools like Cyberquery, QAD Browsers, or Excel/SQL extraction tools.
