What we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced maritime professional to join the LR Naval team at HMNB Portsmouth, supporting the delivery of classification services for QE Class Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers, and other naval vessels. This position brings together surveying skills, project coordination, and client interaction. You will work closely with the client’s COM teams, providing trusted advice on classification surveys, repairs, and alterations while helping to plan and coordinate certification activities. The ideal candidate will be at ease in a waterfront environment, able to cultivate productive relationships with clients and contractors, and focused on ongoing improvement. You also need to be eligible for UK security clearance and able to work within HMNB Portsmouth.

What we offer you

  • A challenging and rewarding waterfront role that combines surveying and project-management responsibilities, with opportunities to engage directly with the operational end of the business.
  • A full-time opportunity to join a growing Naval operation and a collaborative team that looks out for one another and values collective accomplishments.

The role

  • Help plan and manage certification activities for QE Class Aircraft Carriers, Type 45 Destroyers, and other client vessels as required.
  • Provide specialist support and advice to the client relating to classification surveys, repairs, and alterations.
  • Attend client meetings with prime contractors, providing advice and guidance in support of the client where required.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for LR to provide advisory services and solutions when client issues arise.
  • Provide support to the LR service delivery team.

What you bring

  • Relevant surveying experience and the ability to apply project-management skills in a client-facing environment.
  • The ability to provide trusted, specialist advice on classification surveys, repairs, and alterations.
  • The capacity to obtain UK SV security clearance and work at HMNB Portsmouth.

You are someone who

  • Is keen to take accountability and ownership for delivering customer needs.
  • Is able to self-manage and prioritize tasks towards reaching goals.
  • Is effective at solving problems, identifying and fixing issues, and making timely decisions.
  • Shows initiative and stays motivated to move tasks forward.
  • Communicates in a structured way and has the ability to present technical ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Displays a team spirit, particularly in a multicultural environment.
  • Responds positively to learning opportunities and is comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone.
  • Builds trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally in meetings with clients and prime contractors.
  • Identifies opportunities, takes initiative and contributes to continuous improvement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
