I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What Success Looks Like
In your first 12-18 months, success would include:
- Building strong relationships and credibility across the site.
- Maintaining compliance with QHSE and COMAH requirements.

- Strengthening and improving management systems so they remain practical and effective.
- Supporting the ongoing development of the site's major hazard management arrangements.
- Delivering measurable improvements in safety, quality, environmental performance and operational effectiveness.
- Becoming a visible, trusted and hands-on presence across the business.
What We're Looking For
You will bring a strong QHSE background gained in a manufacturing, engineering, logistics, FMCG, food production or another regulated environment. Equally, you may have developed a strong technical or operational background and found a passion for safety, quality and continuous improvement.

COMAH Experience
Previous experience of working at a COMAH site would be beneficial, but direct COMAH ownership is not a prerequisite. As a Lower Tier COMAH site, major hazard management is an important aspect of our operation. You should be able to demonstrate practical awareness of working safely within a regulated industrial setting and understand the purpose and significance of COMAH.
The successful candidate will be expected to build the site-specific knowledge needed to lead confidently within our Lower Tier COMAH environment. Support and mentoring will be available to help the successful candidate build their COMAH expertise whilst leading and influencing QHSE performance across the site.
Interested?
If you're looking for a role where you can make a visible impact, broaden your experience and help shape the future of QHSE within a growing manufacturing business, we'd love to hear from you.
