QHSE Manager
Location: Cambridge (with travel to UK operational sites as required)
Salary: Competitive
Job type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
About The Role
The QHSE Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and maintaining the Company’s integrated management system (IMS) covering Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management activities across all UK operations.
The role provides strategic leadership, governance, and technical expertise to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, customer requirements, and internationally recognized standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 17020 where applicable.
The QHSE Manager will drive a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and risk reduction, whilst supporting business growth, customer satisfaction, and employee wellbeing. The position serves as the primary point of contact for all QHSE matters and works closely with senior leadership, operational management, customers, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Company’s Integrated Management System (IMS) ensuring they are compliant with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other applicable standards.
- Review and improve policies, procedures, processes, and safe systems of work to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Ensure all controlled documentation is maintained, reviewed, and updated in accordance with document control requirements.

Compliance And Governance
- Act as the Company’s subject matter expert for Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental, and regulatory matters.
- Monitor changes in legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements and communicate implications to the business.
- Support customer audits, client assessments, and supplier evaluations.
Audit And Certification Management
- Develop and manage the annual internal audit programme.
- Conduct internal audits across offices, operational sites, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate external surveillance, recertification, and customer audits.
- Manage audit findings, corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.
- Maintain accreditation and certification activities, including UKAS-related schemes where applicable.
Incident Management And Risk Control
- Lead investigations into, identify root causes, and implement corrective action for incidents, accidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
- Monitor incident trends and produce management reports with recommendations for improvement.
- Provide guidance and support on risk assessments, COSHH assessments, method statements, and safe working practices.
- Support emergency preparedness and business continuity planning activities.

Performance Monitoring And Reporting
- Analyse trends, identify risks, and highlight opportunities for improvement and prepare routine reports and dashboards for senior management.
- Support the setting and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), annual QHSE objectives, and targets.
Training And Culture
- Promote a positive and proactive QHSE culture throughout the organisation.
- Develop and deliver QHSE training, awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and coaching managers.
Operational And Business Support
- Support tender submissions, customer questionnaires, and prequalification activities.
- Provide QHSE input into new business opportunities, operational planning, and project delivery.
Facilities, Sustainability and Environmental Management
- Oversee QHSE-related facilities management contracts including fire safety, waste management, environmental services, and related compliance activities.
- Support initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving sustainability performance.
