Children Not Numbers is a humanitarian organization focused on supporting children affected by conflicts and poverty, ensuring they receive vital medical care, education, and advocacy. The organization identifies children in urgent need of medical evacuation and coordinates their transfer to countries able to provide complex healthcare. Alongside immediate aid, Children Not Numbers offers long-term, sustainable rehabilitation services to support children living with lifelong disabilities. The team works across medical, social, and legal domains to promote the well-being, protection, and empowerment of children. Through advocacy, education programs, and resource mobilization, the organization drives policy changes that advance children’s rights and improve their life outcomes.
Role Description
This is a remote volunteer role for a Qualified Solicitor at Children Not Numbers. The solicitor will provide legal advice and support on matters related to child protection, medical evacuations, cross-border healthcare arrangements, and safeguarding. Day-to-day tasks may include:

- Reviewing and drafting agreements or MOUs with partner organizations
- Advising on jurisdictional issues
- Ensuring compliance with relevant international and national laws

The role involves collaborating with medical, operations, and advocacy teams to:
- Assess legal risk
- Support casework
- Help develop policies and procedures that protect children’s rights
The solicitor may also contribute to advocacy efforts, prepare legal briefs or position papers, and assist in developing guidance documents for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor with current or previous registration in a recognized jurisdiction, with experience in one or more of the following areas: child law, human rights law, international law, healthcare law, or charity/non-profit law.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, and international conventions relevant to child protection, medical care, and cross-border cooperation.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents such as contracts, MOUs, policies, and safeguarding frameworks.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and provide clear, practical legal advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts to non-legal colleagues and external partners.
- Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple matters concurrently, and meet agreed timeframes.
- Commitment to the rights, safety, and dignity of children, and alignment with the mission and values of Children Not Numbers.
- Experience working with NGOs, international organizations, or in conflict or low-resource settings is an asset.
- Fluency in English required; additional languages, particularly those relevant to conflict-affected regions, are beneficial.
