QUALIFIED SOLICITOR (Maternity Cover)

£57,072 (Manager Pay Scale 3)
Leicester/Hybrid
Full-Time
Fixed Term (12 months)

Use your legal expertise to make a real difference to the lives and careers of education leaders across the UK.

Make A Difference

ASCL is looking to appoint a new member of our legal team on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave.

Why This Role Matters

ASCL is seeking to appoint a qualified solicitor looking for a unique and rewarding opportunity to work in-house within a dynamic and highly respected legal department. This role offers the chance to undertake varied and meaningful legal work while supporting senior leaders across the education sector.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can build positive working relationships with members, colleagues, external solicitors, barristers and other stakeholders. Strong organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential, as is a commitment to providing a high-quality service to members.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working alongside a team of experienced solicitors and reporting directly to ASCL's Senior Solicitor, the successful candidate will be a qualified employment solicitor with excellent legal knowledge, strong advocacy skills and the ability to provide clear, practical and effective advice. They will be confident responding to legal queries from members, officers and colleagues, managing cases independently, and representing members before employment tribunals, regulatory bodies and courts. The role also requires the ability to deliver presentations and training, contribute to the development of ASCL's legal services, and keep abreast of legal developments affecting the employment/education sector.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
