Company Description
Sight Cymru is an independent Welsh charity dedicated to supporting people with sight loss across Wales. The organization works to prevent avoidable sight loss by promoting early intervention and good eye health. Sight Cymru partners with Welsh authorities and health boards to help provide strong, person-centered rehabilitation services. It also trains professionals, carers, people with lived experience, friends, and families to better understand and support sight loss. The charity offers guidance to strengthen and develop the eye-care sector throughout Wales.
Role Description
The Qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist will provide tailored, person-centered rehabilitation support to individuals with sight loss in and around Gwent. This part-time, on-site role involves:
- Assessing service users’ needs
- Developing rehabilitation plans
- Delivering practical training to support independent living, mobility, and daily activities

The specialist will work closely with local authorities, health boards, and other professionals to coordinate services and ensure consistency of care. Day-to-day tasks include:

- Home and community-based visits
- Recording and updating accurate case notes
- Signposting service users to additional support and resources
The role also includes contributing to awareness-raising activities and training sessions for carers, families, and professionals to improve understanding of sight loss and rehabilitation.
Qualifications
- Recognized qualification in vision rehabilitation, rehabilitation work, or a closely related field, with registration or eligibility for registration with relevant professional bodies.
- Proven experience supporting people with sight loss or other sensory impairments, including assessment, planning, and delivery of rehabilitation interventions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, explain complex information clearly, and work effectively with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently in the community, manage a caseload, maintain accurate records, and use basic digital tools (email, case management systems, office software).
- Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, and commitment to person-centered, non-discriminatory practice.
- Understanding of the wider eye-care sector in Wales, including local authority and health board structures, and willingness to contribute to service development.
- Full driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes, or ability to travel efficiently within the Pontypool area and surrounding communities.
