Quality and Compliance Officer

Department: Quality and Compliance

Location: Green Valley Academy, The Atrium, Burrs Place, Luton, LU1 3BE

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: Standard business hours with flexibility as required

Reports To: Compliance Manager

The Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quality and Compliance Officer to support the effective delivery of compliance, governance and quality assurance activities across the Academy.

The role involves maintaining compliance systems, supporting adherence to statutory, regulatory and awarding partner requirements, contributing to audit and risk management processes, and promoting continuous improvement across academic and professional services.

Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will help ensure that quality standards are maintained, regulatory obligations are met and governance processes operate effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance and Risk

  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and evidence demonstrating compliance with regulatory, statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Support regulatory submissions and returns, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Assist with internal audits, quality reviews and risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Monitor compliance actions and ensure recommendations are implemented.
  • Contribute to business continuity planning and organisational risk management.

Governance

  • Support governance structures, including committees, meetings and working groups.
  • Prepare agendas, reports, minutes and action logs where required.
  • Maintain document management systems (e.g. SharePoint) for compliance and governance records.
  • Produce clear reports highlighting compliance performance, risks and emerging issues.
  • Support policy development, review and implementation.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

  • Support quality assurance activities and quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Assist with monitoring compliance against internal policies and awarding partner requirements.
  • Contribute to process reviews and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support the implementation of quality improvement action plans.
  • Promote best practice across academic and professional service departments.

Project and Systems Support

  • Support compliance-related projects and organisational initiatives.
  • Assist with process mapping, workflow improvements and system development.
  • Promote effective use of compliance management systems and reporting tools.
  • Contribute to improving operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with academic and professional services teams to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate regulatory and compliance requirements clearly to colleagues across the organisation.
  • Support departments in interpreting policies, procedures and regulatory expectations.
  • Represent the Quality and Compliance team at meetings when required.
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Professional Development

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Higher Education regulations and sector developments.
  • Participate in professional development and compliance training.
  • Share best practice and contribute to continuous improvement across the Academy.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the role.

About You

Essential

  • Degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working within compliance, governance, quality assurance or risk management.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, governance and organisational risk principles.
  • Experience supporting audits, reporting or regulatory processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and document management systems.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.

Desirable

  • Experience within Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of Office for Students (OfS) regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with awarding partners or collaborative provision.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance frameworks and academic governance.
  • Experience using SharePoint or other compliance management systems.
  • Project management qualification or experience (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile or equivalent).
