About the Opportunity
The Chemistry and Radioanalytical Solutions business at Amentum is recruiting for a Quality Assistant to be based in Birchwood, Warrington to work with a team of highly qualified technicians, analysts, and senior scientists. For this role, the Quality Assistant will be working with a range of national and international clients. They will need to work collaboratively with other business areas to support analytical processes and solutions to the problems of tomorrow, including operational and decommissioning sites. The Quality Assistant role provides day-to-day support to the Technical Quality Manager (TQM) in maintaining and supporting the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), quality assurance activities and the continued improvement of laboratory standards. The role also supports routine safety activities and helps promote a positive quality and safety culture across the laboratory.
This vacancy is for 24 hours per week and can be either 3 x 8 hour days or 4 x 6 hour days.

Key Responsibilities
- UKAS Accreditation and ISO/IEC 17025: Support the TQM in maintaining the laboratory's UKAS accreditation and ongoing compliance with ISO/IEC 17025. Assist with monitoring quality activities and records to ensure the laboratory continues to operate in accordance with accreditation and QMS requirements.
- UKAS Assessments: Assist with preparation for UKAS surveillance visits, reassessments and extension-to-scope assessments. This may include reviewing documentation, gathering objective evidence, checking quality and technical records, supporting assessment activities and assisting with the management and close-out of any findings raised.
- Quality Documentation: Assist with the maintenance, review and updating of Quality Management System documentation, including Quality System Manuals (QSMs), Operating Manuals (OMs), forms and associated quality records. Support document control activities to ensure documentation remains current and appropriately controlled.
- Internal Auditing: Perform and support scheduled internal audits in accordance with the laboratory internal audit programme. Gather and record objective evidence, identify potential findings or opportunities for improvement, and bring these to the attention of the TQM.
- Quality Control Monitoring: Assist with the routine monitoring of analytical QC charts. Identify potential trends, shifts, unusual results or deterioration in performance and bring these to the attention of the TQM and relevant technical personnel for review.
- Non-Conformance Investigations: Support the TQM and relevant laboratory personnel with the investigation of non-conformances (NCRs), including gathering information and evidence, reviewing the potential extent of issues, supporting root cause investigations and assisting with the tracking of corrective and preventive actions through to completion.
- Safety Walkdowns: Undertake routine laboratory safety walkdowns, identifying and recording potential hazards, unsafe conditions, housekeeping issues and opportunities for improvement. Escalate matters requiring immediate or further action to the appropriate personnel.
- SafeUp: Raise SafeUp reports where safety observations, hazards, near misses or opportunities for improvement are identified, and support the follow-up of actions where required.
- Continuous Improvement: Support the identification and implementation of improvements to laboratory processes and encourage good quality and safety practices across the laboratory.

Here’s What You’ll Need
- Graduate or secondary qualifications in chemistry or other scientific discipline, or comparable knowledge and experience
- Good interpersonal skills
- The ability to collaborate with colleagues
- The ability to work flexibly on complex problems developing innovative solutions
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
