Contract QA – C#/.NET

12-month contract | £450 per day DOE | Outside IR35
Hybrid – 2 days per week in Belfast, 3 days remote

We're looking for an experienced QA Engineer to join an established Belfast-based technology team on a long-term contract.

This is a hands-on technical testing role for someone who sits comfortably between software engineering and quality engineering. You'll need strong C#/.NET knowledge, the ability to understand and review application code, and the confidence to challenge engineering teams when design or implementation decisions create quality or testability issues.

The testing strategy, frameworks and tooling are already in place. The requirement here isn't to arrive and reinvent the testing function; it's to make sure those standards are being applied effectively across development teams and that the quality of what's being delivered remains high.

The Role

You'll work closely with software engineers and existing testing specialists, reviewing how applications are being developed and tested throughout the delivery lifecycle. A key part of the role is being technically credible with developers. You should be comfortable opening up a C# codebase, understanding what's happening and having detailed conversations around design, testing and potential quality risks.

You'll work across an established testing environment covering unit, component, integration and acceptance testing, with technologies including NUnit, SpecFlow and internal testing frameworks.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Rather than focusing purely on test strategy or governance, you'll remain close to the technology and delivery teams.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Reviewing C#/.NET applications and code from a quality and testability perspective
  • Working directly with developers to identify potential quality issues earlier in the development lifecycle
  • Challenging technical decisions where they make applications difficult to test or maintain
  • Ensuring engineering teams are following established testing standards and practices
  • Working across unit, component, integration and acceptance testing
  • Identifying gaps between the agreed testing approach and what's actually being delivered
  • Supporting existing QA and engineering teams during periods of increased delivery activity
  • Helping maintain a consistently high quality bar across multiple development teams
  • Operating with a high degree of autonomy once familiar with the environment

What We're Looking For

The strongest fit will likely be someone who started their career in software development before moving towards SDET, quality engineering or test architecture.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong commercial C#/.NET engineering experience
  • A genuine Software Engineer in Test / SDET background
  • The ability to read, understand and critique production C# code
  • Strong knowledge of automated testing and modern testing practices
  • Experience across unit, component, integration and acceptance testing
  • Confidence working directly with experienced software engineers
  • The technical depth to explain why something presents a quality or testability problem, rather than simply highlighting that it does
  • Experience working within established engineering and testing standards
  • The ability to work independently in a senior technical capacity

Experience with NUnit and SpecFlow would be particularly useful, although broader C#/.NET testing experience is more important.

The Opportunity

This is a good contract for someone who wants to remain technically hands-on while having genuine influence over software quality. You won't be coming into an immature environment and being asked to build an entire testing capability from scratch. The frameworks, processes and wider specialist team are already largely in place.

Instead, you'll be there to strengthen what's already working, challenge where standards aren't being met and help ensure quality remains embedded within the engineering process.
