About The Role
The Lead Quality Assurance Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across advanced weapon systems programs. This position involves overseeing quality assurance activities throughout the entire product lifecycle—from development and manufacturing to delivery—supporting the creation of highly detailed defense products. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with suppliers, project teams, and manufacturing units across multiple sites, including occasional travel within the UK and internationally to locations such as India and the USA. This role offers exposure to strategic quality initiatives, leadership opportunities, and the potential to grow into a Quality Manager position within a high-impact environment. The role also involves supporting continuous improvement strategies, conducting audits, managing non-conformance investigations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001.

Qualifications
- Qualified to HNC, HND, Degree level, or equivalent practical experience within quality environments
- Experience supporting compliance, audits, and continuous improvement activities
- Robust supplier audit experience; formal audit qualification is desirable
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001 quality standards and requirements
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP for quality data management and reporting
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and risk mitigation techniques
- Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues in quality practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
Responsibilities
- Guide and manage quality activities across the entire product lifecycle, ensuring adherence to quality systems, policies, and standards
- Conduct supplier audits, evaluate supplier performance, and support risk mitigation efforts
- Oversee investigations into non-conformance issues and lead quality review processes
- Implement preventative actions to enhance operational performance and product quality
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a forward-thinking quality culture within teams and suppliers
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive quality documentation and reporting within business systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes
- Participate in strategic quality planning and contribute to the development of quality standards and procedures
- Support supplier development activities and ensure compliance with contractual and industry requirements
- Travel as needed to supplier sites and other BAE Systems locations within the UK and overseas
