Role: QA Engineer

Contract Rate: £360 per day – Inside IR35

Location: Newcastle – onsite once per sprint

Clearance: BPSS

Start Date: ASAP


Previous Central Government experience is required.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced QA Engineer to join a Central Government programme on an initial contract basis. The successful candidate will work as part of an Agile delivery team, taking ownership of quality assurance and test automation across the delivery lifecycle. You will help ensure solutions meet the required functional, technical, and quality standards while supporting continuous delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites.
  • Build and execute automated tests using Selenium and/or Playwright.
  • Develop and maintain BDD scenarios using Cucumber.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
  • Work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other delivery team members.
  • Identify, document, and manage defects through to resolution.
  • Contribute to test strategy, planning, and continuous improvement of QA processes.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines where appropriate.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and support delivery against sprint objectives.
  • Provide clear evidence and reporting of testing outcomes against agreed deliverables.

Essential Experience

  • Strong commercial experience as a QA / Test Automation Engineer.
  • Hands-on automation experience with Selenium and/or Playwright.
  • Strong experience with Cucumber / BDD.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Good understanding of the software development and testing lifecycle.
  • Experience designing and maintaining robust automated test suites.
  • Previous experience delivering within Central Government.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Able to obtain and maintain BPSS clearance.

  • Experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) environments or standards.
  • CI/CD and automated testing pipeline experience.
  • API and integration testing experience.
