Product Quality Assurance Engineer

The Company

OctaiPipe is a technology company on a mission to revolutionise the optimisation of energy in data centres through decentralised artificial intelligence (AI). To do this, OctaiPipe is harnessing an elegant but revolutionary idea. Rather than move the data from the source, move the algorithms to the data to learn at the data source. This learning can be achieved with the intelligence of many devices through novel federated AI technology. OctaiPipe is developing the AI for Cooling Efficiency (ACE) application to be deployed using its own in-house distributed AI platform.

OctaiPipe is an ambitious, fast-growing company with the vision to be the global driving force for the next paradigm of foundational, physical AI that ensures our connected world, and its critical infrastructure, is safe, secure and sustainable. We are growing fast, having closed a recent funding round and looking to accelerate rapidly. OctaiPipe is offering the right candidate an exciting opportunity to help shape how we build.

The Role

You will be a hands-on Quality Assurance Engineer, reporting to the Product Quality Assurance Lead, with day-to-day ownership of the automated test suites that keep ACE and its supporting platform reliable. The heart of the job is BDD end-to-end and API testing across ACE and the internal platform tooling around it. This is a role with genuine ownership from day one: you will take test suites end to end - designing them, wiring them into CI, and standing behind their results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain automated tests — UI, API and service-level — within the testing strategy set by the QA Lead and Product
  • Author BDD/Gherkin scenarios and the supporting automation code, keeping them readable, independent, reliable and traceable to requirements
  • Own end-to-end test coverage for assigned areas: from writing scenarios, to wiring them into CI, to triaging failures — distinguishing genuine product defects from environment or test-data flakiness, and raising clear, well-evidenced bug reports
  • Test not only the ACE product but the internal platform tooling around it
  • Set up and manage test data and environment state — via API and the database — to get scenarios into known conditions, and clean up after them
  • Maintain and improve CI test workflows (GitHub Actions, including self-hosted and disposable per-PR / preview runners), test reporting, and traceability into Jira/Xray
  • Work with the QA Lead, Product Manager and Tech Leads to help triage defects, recommend priority, and escalate quality risks early
  • Contribute to regression and compatibility coverage across components, versions and representative customer environments
  • Verify issues raised by customers and help propose workarounds where possible
  • Grow toward owning one of our developing areas — performance and security testing, or edge/MLOps deployment validation
  • Use AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to speed up test creation, debugging and refactoring — while critically reviewing AI-generated output before it enters the suite
  • Follow and contribute to the team's testing processes and standards, and propose improvements

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your Profile

A hands-on QA Engineer looking for a role with real ownership and technical depth. You are proactive and self-motivated, you enjoy working close to the code, and you would rather file a well-evidenced defect than loosen an assertion to make a test pass.

Technically you are comfortable with the following:

  • BDD and specification-by-example
  • Test automation in TypeScript, ideally with the Serenity/JS framework and the Screenplay pattern (any strong page-object/BDD automation background transfers)
  • REST APIs — manual and automated testing, working from OpenAPI/Swagger contracts, and best practice in API testing
  • Web application testing with Playwright
  • Python — unit and integration testing with pytest, including async tests (pytest-asyncio); much of our platform tooling is Python
  • GitHub Actions — building workflows to run and grow the automated test suite
  • Docker — bringing up and troubleshooting a multi-service docker-compose stack locally
  • OIDC/JWT auth providers — we use both Keycloak (ACE) and Azure AD / Entra ID (the internal tools); the edge client adds certificate/mTLS device auth
  • C#/.NET — reading and extending unit and integration tests (xUnit, Testcontainers) for the control-plane portal
  • SQL/MSSQL (schemas deployed via DACPAC) for setting up and verifying test data
  • Jira/Xray for test management and traceability

  • Have previously worked following an Agile/Scrum methodology
  • SaaS, PaaS software products experience
  • An interest in working on an AI/ML product, with a pragmatic, evidence-led approach to testing the software around it (model quality itself sits with our data science team)
  • Ideally exposure to one or more of: performance and security testing, Kubernetes and cloud (Azure/AWS), MLOps or edge deployment, or IoT/industrial protocols (MQTT, Modbus, OPC-UA)
  • Ideally domain knowledge in data centres, cooling/HVAC, or building-management systems (BMS)
