About The Role

At Sulzer, innovation and excellence are at the heart of everything we do. Our Leeds site is an Advanced Pump Design and Manufacturing Facility and a recognised centre of excellence within our global network. From this facility, we engineer and manufacture some of the largest and most complex pump packages in the world, supporting critical infrastructure projects across the energy, water, industrial and renewable sectors worldwide.

Due to an internal transfer, we are looking for an experienced QA Manager to lead and develop our Quality Assurance function across both manufacturing operations and an extensive global supply chain.

The Role

Leading a team of 4 direct reports and influencing a wider quality network of more than 15 + indirect reports, you will play a key role in maintaining customer confidence, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring compliance with both internal and external quality requirements.

This position offers significant exposure to complex engineered products, demanding customer expectations, and a diverse international supplier base.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality functions for the Leeds manufacturing facility.
  • Develop and maintain quality strategies, policies and procedures aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage and develop a high performing Quality and Supplier Quality team.
  • Drive supplier quality performance across a large and diverse global supply chain.
  • Ensure robust quality planning through Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Lead investigations into quality issues, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Procurement and Project Management teams to deliver customer requirements.
  • Oversee auditing activities, compliance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the effective application of inspection and testing methodologies, including NDT requirements where applicable.
  • Support customer inspections, witness testing and quality reviews.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven Quality Assurance leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong supplier quality management experience.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining and assembly processes.
  • Experience developing and managing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence both operational teams and external suppliers.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques and requirements.
  • Experience working with large engineered equipment, rotating equipment, pumps, pressure vessels or similar products.
  • Understanding of NORSOK standards.
  • Experience operating within highly regulated industries such as energy, oil & gas, water, nuclear or renewables.

Working Pattern

This role is primarily site-based in Leeds, reflecting its close connection to our operations and team collaboration. However, we take a positive and flexible approach to ways of working, recognising the importance of balance and autonomy, so ad-hoc home working can be supported where appropriate. Alongside this, we offer a 37-hour working week with a flexi-time policy, giving you the ability to bank hours and take them back as service leave, helping you manage your time in a way that works best for you.
