The Role
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust standards within the food production environment, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, customer requirements, and third-party standards such as BRCGS. This role focuses on high care production areas, where strict hygiene and process controls are critical due to the elevated risk of contamination. The role plays a key part in driving a culture of continuous improvement excellence in food safety and quality within the production environment.
Key Accountabilities of the role:
QA Management:
- Management and development of the Quality Assurance Team.
- Maintain product quality and adherence to GMP through management of the QA team and processes to deliver agreed product specifications as defined in quality standards and policies.
- Ensure that all food safety and compliance checks are conducted to schedule.
- Management of the testing and sampling schedules.
- Management of the GMP, Fabrication and Hygiene & Housekeeping audits
- Annual validation of the sites CCP and food safety controls – Cooking, Cooling, Metal Detection, Allergen & Hygiene.
- Analysis data related to quality metrics and performance to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Drive investigations and root cause analysis in conjunction with the site operational team, ensuring all corrective actions are embedded within the production environment.
- Management of Quality / Consistency Panels
- Manufacturing Lead for 3rd Party and Customer audits within the production environment.
- Work closely with hygiene and engineering to improve on hygienic design.
- Lead the technical agenda for the integration of NPD into the production environment.
- Investigate and manage customer complaints and site non-conformances with the production, engineering and hygiene teams.
- Manage the annual calibration of equipment with service providers, providing documentation to the Quality Systems Manager
- Site facilitator for the Pest Control Service Provider, including reviews and pest control portal management.

Compliance & Food Safety:
- Work with the Quality Systems Manager and operations to ensure that all food safety and legal compliance are integrated into the production environment.
- Conduct Internal Audits.
- Ensure that site traceability systems are robust and that all operational documentation is to standard.
- Define and maintain product and process specifications; challenge and optimize factory processes.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, coach and develop the QA team to ensure they are engaged and empowered with a focus on problem solving and team work.
- Ensure robust QA team structure and shift coverage
Continuous Improvement:
- Analyse trends from complaints, audits, and quality KPIs to identify areas for improvement.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions with the operations team.
- Lead quality and food safety initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of quality processes and systems, fostering a culture of quality and food safety within the manufacturing environment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Assurance Manager and site operational team to drive and embed the customer and legal requirements for a High Care food manufacturing facility
- Work closely with production, engineering, NPD, and supply chain teams to ensure quality is embedded throughout the process.
