Today, the business also produces a wide range of extracts designed to deliver great taste and functionality to food and beverage applications.
RNL became part of the OBG Group in 2012, a privately owned business based in Liverpool. Today, OBG employs over 300 people with a turnover exceeding ยฃ80 million and EBITDA of more than ยฃ10 million per annum.
About the Role
We are seeking a Quality Assurance Officer to help administer and continually improve the Quality Management Systems (QMS) at Ransom Naturals Limited.
The successful candidate will conduct batch release activities, deviation investigations, change controls, root cause analysis and other quality-related documentation in accordance with EU GMP, BRC Food Safety Standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.
This role will also support the organisation and prioritisation of QA activities to ensure the right-first-time manufacture, testing, reporting and release of pharmaceutical and food & beverage products.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management Systems
- Ensure products are fit for purpose before release for use or commercial sale.
- Maintain and improve QMS performance by progressing deviations, CAPAs and change controls in a compliant and timely manner.
- Support the QA team in leading remediation projects.
- Support the maintenance of the site QMS and facilitate reporting of relevant KPIs.
- Author, review and approve controlled documents in accordance with procedures.
- Author and approve routine QMS activities.

Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct batch release activities and quality reviews.
- Perform root cause analysis using tools such as Fishbone Diagrams and 5 Whys.
- Ensure customer and supplier complaints are investigated thoroughly and communicated effectively.
- Ensure customer requests and queries are handled in accordance with company procedures.
- Provide guidance and advice on quality considerations relating to manufacture, testing, reporting and product release.
Auditing & Training
- Participate in internal, customer and regulatory audits.
- Conduct the internal audit programme.
- Support the hosting of regulatory and customer audits.
- Support the delivery of GMP training across the site.
- Assist in the training and development of QA Officers and other staff as required.
Supplier & Validation Support
- Support supplier qualification activities for raw materials and packaging components.
- Review and maintain Technical Agreements.
- Support validation activities across all departments.
- Support HACCP maintenance in line with BRC requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Help conceive, define and deliver quality improvement projects.
- Monitor, report and escalate quality performance indicators where required.
- Support effective coordination of QA workload to drive right-first-time performance.
- Undertake any other quality-related activities as directed by the Quality Manager.

Education & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related discipline, including Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Quality Assurance role.
Desirable
- 1โ3 years of experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other regulated industries.
- Strong understanding of GMP and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and quality control testing.
- Understanding of validation protocols and documentation practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
