About Us:

Lakers is a leading mechanical contractor operating within the engineering construction industry. We specialise in the installation of highly regulated process piping systems, delivering high-quality solutions for blue chip clients across the Power & Energy, Pharmaceutical, and Petrochemical sectors.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced QA/QC Inspector to join our project team on a process facility focused on process piping and mechanical installation activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, and documentation activities are completed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, and client quality requirements.

The role requires a proactive individual with strong knowledge of welding inspection, piping fabrication and installation, quality documentation, and inspection processes within industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

  • Conduct quality inspections of process piping and mechanical installation works.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Verify that fabrication and installation activities comply with approved isometric drawings, P&IDs, and engineering documentation.
  • Monitor and verify compliance with project quality plans and inspection requirements.

Welding & Fabrication Inspection

  • Verify the use of the correct and approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs).
  • Check and maintain records of welder qualifications and ensure welders are working within the scope of their approvals.
  • Perform visual inspections of welded joints and fabrication activities.
  • Liaise with production and construction teams to ensure quality issues are identified and resolved promptly.
  • Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs) where required and assist in implementing corrective actions.

NDT Coordination

  • Identify and request Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements in accordance with project specifications and ITPs.
  • Coordinate with NDT contractors and review NDT reports for compliance.
  • Maintain inspection records and ensure traceability of all inspection activities.

Pressure Testing & Mechanical Completion

  • Witness and verify hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing activities.
  • Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with approved procedures and relevant standards.
  • Review test packs and pressure test documentation prior to execution.
  • Support mechanical completion and system handover activities.

Documentation & Handover

  • Compile and maintain quality records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare final quality dossiers and handover documentation packages.
  • Ensure all inspection reports, test records, material certificates, welding records, NDT reports, and associated documentation are complete and traceable.
  • Participate in client and third-party audits and inspections as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector (minimum requirement).
  • Demonstrable experience as a QA/QC Inspector within process piping, mechanical installation, fabrication, or industrial construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of welding inspection principles and fabrication quality control processes.
  • Experience reviewing and implementing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of pressure testing requirements and associated documentation.
  • Experience compiling final handover and quality documentation packages.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 Trade Apprenticeship (Pipefitting, Welding, Mechanical, or related discipline).
  • Level 2 Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) qualification(s).
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Additional welding, fabrication, inspection, or quality management certifications.

Knowledge & Experience:

Desirable knowledge includes:

  • ASME B31.3 – Process Piping
  • ASME Section IX – Welding, Brazing and Fusing Qualifications
  • Pressure testing and mechanical completion processes.
  • Materials traceability and certification control.
  • Quality management systems and document control procedures.
  • Industrial process facilities, petrochemical, chemical, energy, oil & gas, or similar sectors.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Excellent organisational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound inspection decisions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Competent in report writing and quality record management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.

Requirements:

  • DBS check will be required before employment commences.
  • Candidates within a commutable distance is preferred

Rates/Working hours:

  • Minimum 38 hours per week
  • Rate negotiable depending on experience
