IN A NUTSHELL
As a sports nutrition and health food manufacturer, we produce a wide range of products including powders, capsules, tablets and soft gels within our own manufacturing facility.
In this shift based role, you will be working closely with the operations team to ensure every product released to customers meets our Food Safety and Quality Standards. Reporting to the UK Site Quality Assurance Manager, you will be responsible for monitoring Food Safety and Quality within manufacturing that support our programs for BRC implementation.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Quality control and product release
- Carry out quality control checks during production, including CCP monitoring, label verification, weights and review of shift documentation.
- Complete line clearance and start-up checks before production begins, including verification of allergen changeovers.
- Carry out in-process checks appropriate to each product format (e.g. capsule and tablet weights.
- Verify metal detection and foreign body controls at the required frequency.
- Carry out hygiene and cleaning verification (e.g. ATP swabbing).
- Complete organoleptic assessment of finished product against specification.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and product sampling in line with quality management system requirements, and record results accurately.
- Manage product under positive release, making sure it is held until results are approved and released in line with the release procedure.
- Place product on hold where it does not meet specification or where food safety or quality is at risk, [including stopping production where necessary].
- Make sure all stock on hold or in quarantine is resolved within specified timeframes, in line with the hold and release procedure.
- Keep retained production samples organised, labelled and easy to locate.

Non-conformances and complaints
- Raise non-conformances and support manufacturing with investigations, including root cause analysis.
- Support the QA Manager with customer complaint investigations by gathering evidence, identifying likely root causes and following up agreed corrective actions.
Audits and compliance
- Carry out internal audits in line with the audit schedule (e.g. glass and brittle plastics, GMP, knife, pen, traceability).
- Support external, customer and certification audits.
- Maintain calibration of Technical equipment in line with the calibration schedule.
- Keep traceability records accurate and up to date, and support traceability exercises.
- Coach production teammates on GMP, hygiene and allergen standards on the shop floor.
- Make sure HACCP, food safety standards and internal quality procedures are followed across manufacturing.
Continuous improvement
- Identify and suggest improvements to food safety and quality systems and processes within the manufacturing facility.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required by the QA Manager
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
HARD SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Level 2 Food Safety and Level 2 HACCP, or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a quality assurance or quality control role within food, supplement or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of GMP and HACCP principles.
- Computer literate, with experience of [Microsoft Office / Google Workspace].
SOFT SKILLS / PERSONALITY TRAITS:
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Confident in communicating with production teams, including challenging when standards are not met.
- Able to manage multiple tasks, prioritise and meet deadlines
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Level 3 Food Safety and/or Level 3 HACCP.
- Experience working to BRCGS or another GFSI-recognised standard.
- Internal auditor training.
- Experience using root cause analysis tools (e.g. 5 Whys, fishbone).

LOCATION: Colchester, UK
Working hours: Shift based in line with manufacturing (06:30-14:30, 14:30-23:00) Rotating shift
Working environment: This role is mainly based on the production floor. PPE is provided.
