QA Test Manager
Location: Stafford – primarily office-based
Salary: £65,000 DOE
About the role
We’re working with a growing SaaS business based in Stafford that is looking for an experienced QA Test Manager to take ownership of its Quality Assurance function.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to build, improve and shape QA, rather than simply inherit an established process.
You'll lead and develop the existing QA team while remaining hands-on with testing. A key focus will be helping the business move from a predominantly manual testing environment towards a more mature and effective automated testing strategy.
You'll assess the current approach, identify areas for improvement and establish the processes, standards and frameworks needed to support a growing product and development team.
Working closely with Development, Product and wider stakeholders, you'll help embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle and ensure QA continues to evolve alongside the business.
What you'll be doing
- Take ownership of the QA function and provide technical direction and leadership.
- Lead, mentor and develop the existing QA team.
- Remain hands-on with testing and contribute directly where required.
- Assess the current QA approach and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and implement a scalable QA and test strategy.
- Drive the adoption of automated testing across the appropriate areas of the product.
- Establish the right balance between automated and manual testing.
- Evaluate and introduce appropriate testing tools and frameworks.
- Develop and maintain automated tests.
- Improve approaches to functional, regression, API and database testing.
- Work closely with developers to identify and prevent quality issues earlier in the development lifecycle.
- Help integrate automated testing into CI/CD workflows.
- Establish clear QA standards, processes and documentation.
- Monitor and improve test coverage, quality and efficiency.
- Constructively challenge existing ways of working and introduce improvements.
- Coach and develop the wider team to improve QA capability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We're particularly interested in people who have experience of:
- Taking a predominantly manual QA environment towards greater automation.
- Working within a scaling SaaS business.
- Building or professionalising a QA function.
- Supporting multiple products or platforms.
- Introducing new testing processes, tools or frameworks.
- Working closely with Development and Product teams to improve software quality.
Experience with a particular automation framework isn't essential – we're more interested in your understanding of automation and your ability to determine the right approach.
Why join?
This isn't a role where you'll be handed an established QA function and asked to maintain the status quo.
You'll have the opportunity to shape the QA strategy, introduce new ways of working, develop the existing team and help define what good QA looks like as the business scales.
If you're a senior QA professional who enjoys being hands-on, developing people and building better testing practices, this is an opportunity to have a genuine impact within a growing SaaS business.
