About Environmental Science

SOCOTEC’s Environmental Science team delivers independent, UKAS accredited environmental testing and scientific analysis that supports safer, more sustainable decisions across sectors including construction, infrastructure, energy, marine and manufacturing. Our experts provide high quality environmental chemistry, soil, water and waste testing, advanced chemical analysis, nuclear and renewable energy testing, marine and oils testing, environmental forensics and accredited asbestos analysis. Using industry leading laboratory methods and a data driven approach, we help clients understand environmental quality, assess contamination risks and comply with regulatory standards, contributing to environmental protection and public health.

Quality Coordinator - Bretby

Are you interested in quality management and laboratory accreditation? This could be your opportunity to excel as a Quality Coordinator, playing a vital role in supporting SOCOTEC's continued success.

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We're looking for a dedicated Quality Coordinator to join our Environmental Science division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Quality Coordinator to join our team at Bretby. In this role, you'll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. A background in chemistry and laboratory operations, along with knowledge of UKAS 17025 accreditation and MCerts standards, is essential to thrive in this position.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting quality functions across Environmental Science laboratories by monitoring QC charts, administering proficiency testing schemes, and investigating non-conformance reports
  • Conducting internal system and vertical audits, tracking audit schedules, and verifying the effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions
  • Managing controlled laboratory documentation including reviewing, amending, and re-issuing SOPs and quality procedures to maintain ISO17025 and UKAS compliance
  • Assisting the Quality Manager in delivering training modules, participating in quality meetings, and monitoring Key Performance Indicators to ensure departmental objectives are met

Qualifications

  • Experience of Laboratory procedures, principles, methods and instrumentation
  • Computer literacy – specifically knowledge of Microsoft excel and Word
  • Good understanding of scientific principles, nomenclature and theory
  • Experience and understanding of working to UKAS/MCerts standards
  • Familiarity with forensic laboratory operations and knowledge of Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) Codes of Practice and ILAC standards would be advantageous, as the role may include supporting quality functions in forensic testing environments
