Working for Suscom Industries

Suscom is a growing, family-owned business that manufactures office furniture components using injection moulding processes. Its team works in a hands-on manufacturing environment, ensuring products meet the required quality standards throughout production.

As an apprentice, you'll join a small team in a busy manufacturing environment, helping to inspect and check the quality of products. You'll gain hands-on experience carrying out quality inspections, checking measurements, testing components using specialist equipment and identifying any defects that need correcting. You'll also learn how to maintain accurate records, report quality issues and work closely with your team to ensure products meet the required standards.

  • Starting salary of £25,000

Key Responsibilities

You'll get involved in a variety of quality control tasks, including:

  • Inspect products manufactured on-site and supplied by external suppliers to ensure they meet standards
  • Check product measurements and tolerances to ensure components meet the required specifications
  • Assemble parts to check they fit together correctly
  • Learn how to use testing machines to verify that components meet required standards
  • Identify products that do not meet quality standards and carry out rework where required
  • Report any quality issues directly to the Workshop Supervisor
  • Check that finished goods are correctly labelled and ready for dispatch
  • Assist with packaging products, ensuring the correct quantities and packaging methods are used
  • Complete quality control paperwork accurately and on time
  • Communicate any quality issues to colleagues on the following shift or other relevant team members
  • Follow company procedures, health and safety requirements and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Support colleagues and other areas of the business when needed

About You

You thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy work where attention to detail really matters. You're confident, proactive and passionate about doing a good job, with a strong work ethic and a willingness to support your team. Whether you're completely new to quality control or looking to develop your skills further, you're motivated to learn and build a career in this field.

You follow instructions carefully and understand the importance of safety, accuracy and consistency. You're comfortable working to set procedures, checking measurements and keeping accurate records. Reliable and punctual, you enjoy a structured working environment and can stay focused when carrying out detailed or repetitive tasks. You're organised, methodical and confident raising concerns when something doesn't meet the required standards.

To Apply For This Apprenticeship, You Must

  • Be 18 or over
  • Not be in full-time education
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Have the right to work in the UK

So how does the apprenticeship work?

Start your career as a polymer manufacturing technician and gain hands-on experience supporting production in a modern manufacturing environment.

As part of this Level 3 Polymer Processing Technician apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to set up, run, and monitor polymer processing equipment, control materials and processes, and contribute to producing high-quality plastic and rubber products.

Over 22 months, you’ll combine day-to-day experience in your role with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro. Our blended learning approach includes a mix of online sessions, in-person training, and hands-on support, alongside guidance from a dedicated mentor in the workplace.

You’ll spend at least 6 hours per week on off-the-job training, including virtual learning, practical activities, and applied assignments.

You’ll follow a structured programme combining live sessions, online learning, and hands-on workplace training to build your skills step by step.

This apprenticeship will help you build the skills and experience needed to start your career as a polymer manufacturing technician and progress within the manufacturing industry.

Through hands-on training, you’ll develop the competence and confidence to operate and optimise production processes, monitor performance, and respond to issues in real time. You’ll play a key role in maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency across manufacturing operations. This programme can also lead to professional recognition, such as becoming a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).

You’ll gain experience that’s highly valued across a wide range of manufacturing and production roles, opening up opportunities to grow and specialise within polymer processing and related technical fields.
