Lead Quality Where It Matters Most on the Shop Floor

At Silcoms we manufacture precision-engineered components and assemblies for demanding aerospace applications. We are looking for an experienced Quality Control Manager to provide hands-on leadership across our Quality Control and Inspection function.

Reporting to the Site Director, you'll lead Inspection, NDT Inspection and a small team of Quality Engineers, working closely with Production and Engineering to ensure products consistently meet customer, regulatory and internal quality requirements. This is an operational Quality leadership role for someone who understands metallic aerospace manufacturing and can drive a strong Right First Time and Zero Defects culture.

The Role

You'll take ownership of day-to-day Quality Control activities across the manufacturing operation, ensuring robust controls are maintained from New Product Introduction through production and final delivery. You'll be visible on the shop floor, supporting teams to resolve quality issues, managing non-conforming product and driving root cause and corrective action while ensuring quality requirements support not compromise customer delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and develop the Quality Control, Inspection, NDT Inspection and Quality Engineering teams.
  • Ensure effective quality controls are maintained from NPI through production and delivery.
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering to resolve shop-floor quality concerns.
  • Ensure FAIRs and PPQs are completed and submitted accurately and on time.
  • Manage non-conforming product, including containment, root cause, disposition and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate customer Concessions and Deviation Permits when required.
  • Drive Right First Time and Zero Defects initiatives to reduce defects, scrap and rework.
  • Monitor supplier quality, manage supplier non-conformances and drive corrective actions.
  • Lead structured problem-solving, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities.
  • Establish and monitor Quality KPIs to improve performance and accountability.
  • Coach and develop the Quality team while promoting quality ownership throughout the business.

About You

You'll bring strong practical Quality experience from a metallic manufacturing environment, with the confidence to lead people while remaining closely connected to day-to-day manufacturing operations. We're looking for:

  • Practical metallic manufacturing Quality experience within aerospace, defense, precision engineering or another similarly regulated environment.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a Quality Control and/or Inspection function.
  • Strong experience managing non-conformances, containment, root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Experience working collaboratively with Production and Engineering to resolve manufacturing quality issues.
  • Knowledge of structured continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience specifically within aerospace manufacturing, supplier quality management and customer-specific quality requirements such as SABRe would be advantageous.
  • Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or another recognised Quality professional body would also be beneficial.
