Help Shape the Future of Sustainable Construction

Heidelberg Materials UK is looking for a Quality Control Technician to join our Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) grinding plant in Port Talbot. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring the quality and performance of materials supplied to two of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations.

Working within our on-site laboratory, you will be responsible for carrying out testing and quality assurance activities that support the production of high-quality GGBS products. If you have a scientific background, strong attention to detail, and enjoy working in a hands-on laboratory environment, we would love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Quality Control Technician, you will:

  • Carry out the sampling, preparation, and testing of raw materials and finished products.
  • Ensure all sampling and testing activities comply with relevant standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Produce accurate and timely test results, enabling any deviations from specification to be identified and escalated.
  • Calibrate testing equipment both on and off site.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and identify requirements for upgrades or new equipment.
  • Review existing quality procedures and contribute to the development and implementation of improvements.
  • Maintain excellent laboratory housekeeping and safe working practices.
  • Support the site's commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

  • A qualification in a science-based subject to at least A-Level standard, ideally Chemistry.
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including Maths, English, and Science.
  • Previous laboratory experience (desirable but not essential).
  • The ability to work accurately, independently, and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A methodical approach and excellent attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • The physical capability to undertake the practical aspects of the role.
