Quality Controller
£30,000 per year
Full Time - permanent
42.5 hrs a week. 04:00-13:00. 5 days a week.
Arthur David Food with Service is looking for a proactive and commercially minded Quality Controller to join our fast-paced wholesale fruit and vegetable business. This is a hands-on role that plays a key part in maintaining product quality standards while supporting operational and commercial decisions across the business.
Responsibilities
- Carry out quality inspections on all incoming fruit and vegetable deliveries
- Assess produce against company and customer specifications
- Complete rejection reports and manage non-conformance procedures where required
- Communicate directly with suppliers regarding quality concerns and product performance
- Provide clear and regular updates to the business on stock quality and shelf-life status
- Identify recurring quality trends and supplier performance issues
- Work closely with procurement, warehouse, and sales teams to support commercial decisions
- Make informed decisions on produce acceptance with both quality and commercial impact in mind
- Monitor product rotation, shelf life, and storage conditions within the warehouse
- Maintain accurate quality records, reports, and documentation
- Support continuous improvement in quality standards and operational processes

Requirements
- Previous experience within the fresh produce, wholesale, food manufacturing, or quality control sector preferred
- Good knowledge of fruit and vegetable quality standards and shelf-life expectations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make confident decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to balance quality with business needs
- Confident working independently and as part of a wider team
- Good organisational and reporting skills
- Competent IT skills and ability to complete reports accurately
- Flexible and hands-on approach to work

Skills & Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Physically Fit
- Good understanding of written English
- Must be able to work night shifts
- Must be self motivated
Experience
- Fresh produce: 2 years (required)
- Supply chain: 1 year (preferred)
- Working with BRC Accreditation: 1 year (preferred)
- Quality control: 1 year (required)
Work Authorisation
- United Kingdom (required)
Ability To Commute/relocate
- Must be able to get to Bishop Sutton without relying on public transport
