About The Role
Leonardo is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Engineer to join its Airborne Radar Sector in Edinburgh. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the quality and reliability of high-precision aerospace products. As part of the team, you will work across the entire product lifecycle—from initial concept and development through to production and delivery—ensuring all processes and outputs meet stringent quality standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and strong collaboration skills to support continuous improvement initiatives. This role is integral to maintaining compliance with industry regulations, enhancing process efficiencies, and driving quality excellence within a complex manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a background in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Defence Electronics, or a similarly demanding technical field. For the engineer level, familiarity with Quality Management Systems such as AS9100 and ISO9001 is essential, along with knowledge of quality tools like Root Cause Corrective Action, Process Mapping, and First Article Inspection (FAI). Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive, team-oriented culture. A passion for continuous learning and improvement, along with a willingness to drive process efficiencies, is highly valued.

For senior engineer candidates, experience in high-precision or complex manufacturing environments—preferably within aerospace or defence sectors—is advantageous. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) will be considered a plus. While experience in all areas is not mandatory, a positive attitude, adaptability, and eagerness to develop are key qualities sought by Leonardo.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Operations, Programmes, and Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to ensure timely, compliant, and within-budget delivery of products.
- Lead root cause analysis and promote a culture of proactive problem-solving to reduce non-conformance costs and improve product quality.
- Provide expert guidance on quality standards and practices to support teams in achieving shared business and programme objectives.
- Drive and support quality improvement initiatives, including monitoring KPI performance related to quality notifications (QNs), Material Review Boards (MRBs), and Failure Review Boards (FRBs).
- Coordinate, support, and report on 8D investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in planning, executing, and verifying quality activities across all project phases to ensure compliance and quality assurance.
- Oversee the timely processing of concessions, non-conformances, and production permits, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Contribute to achieving key assurance milestones, maintaining compliance with contractual and regulatory standards.
- Prepare comprehensive quality reports and perform data analysis to inform continuous improvement strategies.
- Conduct internal audits to assess adherence to established processes and identify areas for enhancement.
- Utilize Six Sigma methodologies and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) techniques to identify opportunities for process and product improvements.
