Owen Daniels are looking for an experienced and hands-on Quality Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in the Worcester area.
This is a practical quality role for someone who enjoys being close to the manufacturing process, working directly with production and engineering teams to identify problems, implement robust corrective actions and continually improve product and process quality.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in root cause analysis, problem solving and continuous improvement, with a hands-on approach to resolving quality issues rather than simply reporting them.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate internal, supplier and customer quality issues through to effective resolution.
- Lead and support structured 8D investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented and verified.
- Carry out 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa and other root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying causes of non-conformances.
- Work closely with production, engineering, purchasing and suppliers to resolve quality problems.
- Develop and implement effective corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
- Analyse quality data, trends and recurring defects to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support PFMEA, Control Plan and process risk reviews, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into manufacturing processes.
- Assist with the development and review of inspection methods, quality documentation and process controls.
- Investigate non-conforming product and support decisions around containment, rework, concession or rejection.
- Conduct internal process and product audits and support supplier quality activities where required.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing scrap, rework, customer complaints and process variation.
- Provide hands-on support to production teams when quality issues arise on the shop floor.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented within agreed timescales and are effective in preventing recurrence.
- Support customer and supplier communications relating to technical and quality issues.
- Maintain accurate quality records and produce clear investigation and improvement reports.

About You
The ideal candidate will be a practical and proactive Quality Engineer with experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
You will be comfortable getting onto the shop floor, talking to operators and engineers, examining parts and processes, and using data and structured problem-solving techniques to get to the real cause of an issue.
Essential experience:
- Previous experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong practical experience with 8D problem solving.
- Excellent knowledge of 5 Why / root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing requirements.
- Experience working with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues.
- Good understanding of PFMEA, Control Plans and process controls.
- Experience with internal or process auditing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to challenge processes constructively.

Desirable:
- Experience within a precision engineering, mechanical manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience dealing with customer complaints and supplier quality issues.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and process capability.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma or Kaizen.
- Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
