About The Role
Leonardo is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Engineer to join its Airborne Radar Sector in Edinburgh. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a high-precision environment, supporting the entire product lifecycle from initial concept through to production and delivery. As a key member of the team, you will be instrumental in ensuring that all products and processes meet stringent quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Programmes, and Project Management, to drive continuous improvement initiatives and uphold the company’s commitment to excellence. This position is ideal for professionals passionate about quality assurance, process optimization, and aerospace engineering, looking to make a tangible impact on critical defence systems.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with a solid background in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Defence Electronics, or other technically demanding fields. Candidates should have a good understanding of Quality Management Systems such as AS9100 and ISO9001, along with familiarity with quality tools and techniques including Root Cause Corrective Action, Process Mapping, and First Article Inspection (FAI). For senior roles, experience in high-precision or complex manufacturing environments, particularly within aerospace or defence sectors, is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to foster collaboration and drive improvement initiatives. A proactive attitude towards continuous learning, process waste reduction, and quality enhancement is vital. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) will be considered advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate a good attitude, willingness to learn, and a commitment to team success.

Responsibilities
- Partner with Operations, Programmes, and Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to ensure timely, compliant, and within-budget delivery of products.
- Lead root cause analysis and promote a culture of proactive problem-solving to reduce non-conformance costs and improve product quality.
- Provide expert guidance on quality standards and practices to support teams in achieving business and programme objectives.
- Lead and support quality improvement initiatives, including monitoring KPI performance related to quality notifications, Material Review Boards, and Failure Review Boards.
- Coordinate, support, and report on 8D investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Support planning, execution, and verification of quality activities across all project phases, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory standards.
- Oversee the processing of concessions, non-conformances, and production permits to ensure timely resolution and compliance.
- Assist in achieving key assurance milestones, maintaining adherence to industry standards and customer requirements.
- Prepare detailed quality reports and conduct data analysis to identify trends and develop actionable improvement plans.
- Conduct internal audits to assess process adherence and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement process and product enhancements through deployment of Six Sigma projects and Value Stream Mapping activities.
