About The Role
The Quality Engineer role at Hays presents a vital opportunity for a professional with a passion for quality management and process improvement within a manufacturing setting. In this position, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing product quality standards, supporting manufacturing operations, and ensuring compliance with both customer specifications and industry regulations. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—including Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and external customers—you will lead investigations into quality issues, implement corrective and preventative actions, and contribute to the ongoing development of the company’s Quality Management System (QMS). Your expertise will help drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that the organization consistently meets or exceeds customer expectations while adhering to regulatory standards. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment, with proven experience in implementing and maintaining quality systems. Essential qualifications include a strong understanding of ISO 9001 standards and experience with quality management principles. Candidates should possess the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately, along with experience using precision measurement and inspection equipment such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and thread gauges. Excellent analytical skills, particularly in root cause analysis and problem-solving, are crucial for success in this role. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for preparing reports, conducting investigations, and collaborating with team members and external stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other IT tools will support data analysis and reporting tasks. A proactive, independent work ethic combined with the ability to work effectively within a team is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Verify product conformity against engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements, ensuring high standards of quality are maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct detailed inspections using precision measurement tools to identify any deviations or non-conformances.
- Manage internal and external non-conformance reports (NCRs), leading root cause investigations and documenting findings thoroughly.
- Implement and monitor corrective and preventative actions to eliminate recurring quality issues and improve overall product quality.
- Investigate customer complaints, liaise with clients to understand their concerns, and support supplier quality improvement initiatives.
- Support and maintain the effectiveness of the Quality Management System, assisting with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Analyze quality performance data, identifying trends and opportunities for continuous improvement across processes and products.
- Monitor key quality metrics including NCRs, customer complaints, scrap rates, rework, and first pass yield to gauge performance and identify areas for enhancement.
- Contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives, 5S programs, and other continuous improvement projects aimed at optimizing operational efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet quality and operational objectives, fostering a culture of quality excellence.
