Quality Engineer
Location: Oxfordshire
Rate: £450-£490 per day (umbrella)
Contract: 6 months+ (major 2-3 year highways programme, strong extension likelihood)
Interview / Start: ASAP
Client: Tier 1 Highways Contractor
Role Overview
Our client is seeking multiple Quality Engineers to support a major highways and civils project in Oxfordshire. This is a long-term infrastructure programme with significant structures, drainage, earthworks, utilities and roadworks, requiring strong QA/QC oversight throughout construction.
You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, inspection and test plans, quality procedures and audit requirements. The role suits detail-driven engineers with strong civil engineering knowledge and confidence managing quality processes on large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Implement the project QA/QC management system on site
- Verify site activities comply with relevant codes, standards and specifications
- Coordinate quality inspections with subcontractors, vendors and client representatives
- Manage non-conformance reports and drive remedial actions
- Ensure all technical documents and quality records are current and controlled

Inspection, Testing & Documentation
- Coordinate non-destructive testing and inspection activities
- Prepare, distribute and manage QA/QC documentation for subcontractors
- Compile quality documentation for as-built handover
- Support approval of QC technical submittals
- Develop and maintain inspection and test programmes
Audits & Reporting
- Participate in internal and external quality audits
- Monitor implementation of the approved QC plan
- Chair weekly QA/QC meetings with subcontractor quality teams
- Provide regular updates to the Quality Manager and Construction Manager
Essential Experience
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline
- Proven experience in a quality-focused role within civil engineering or construction
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and relevant quality standards
- Experience with internal and external audits
- Familiarity with construction methods, materials and regulations
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality management tools

Desirable Experience
- Recognised Quality Management qualifications
- Membership of a professional body
- Experience on large-scale civils or highways projects
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies
