Job Description
Aberdeen plc is one of Europe’s largest investment companies, and we are built on a long-standing culture of caring about the future and making a positive impact. Together we invest for a better future. We do it to make a difference to the lives of our clients and customers, our employees, society, and our shareholders. Our business is structured around three distinct areas focused on our clients' changing needs: Aberdeen Investments, Aberdeen Adviser, and interactive investor.
Help shape the quality of our adviser platform and invest in your tomorrow.
About The Role
As a Quality Engineer within Aberdeen Adviser Product & Technology, you will play a pivotal role in embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle. Reporting to the Quality Engineering Chapter Lead, you will work closely with engineers, product managers and designers to champion a quality-first culture and ensure our products meet the highest standards of reliability, usability, accessibility and performance.
Working across multiple cross-functional squads, you will help define and implement testing strategies that enable teams to deliver high-quality software at pace. This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on quality engineering with coaching and mentoring, helping engineers take ownership of testing while promoting best practice across the wider organisation.
You will contribute to both manual and automated testing approaches, selecting the most effective tools and frameworks for different technology stacks and delivery challenges. The role also provides the opportunity to influence the adoption of modern quality engineering practices, including shift-left testing, continuous integration and delivery, service resilience testing and emerging AI-driven testing techniques.
Based in Edinburgh and operating within our blended working model, this permanent opportunity offers the chance to shape how quality is delivered across a growing technology function while investing in your own future development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and contribute to automated and exploratory testing activities, ensuring software meets both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Define test scenarios and coverage by translating requirements into happy path, edge case and negative test conditions.
- Establish and promote effective test layering strategies, including unit, component, API, contract, integration and end-to-end testing.
- Test mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms, ensuring a consistent and high-quality customer experience across channels.
- Guide teams on performance, accessibility, security and usability testing approaches.
- Build and evolve test frameworks and reusable automation components that support fast, reliable delivery.
- Coach engineers on quality engineering best practice, CI/CD, automation and testing strategy.
- Perform targeted exploratory testing to identify hidden defects, usability issues and risk areas.
- Advocate for service reliability through resilience, failover and performance-under-load testing approaches.
- Review pull requests to ensure testing standards, quality coverage and maintainability are achieved.
- Promote continuous improvement in testing practices, tooling and engineering standards.
- Support and govern the adoption of AI-driven testing approaches while ensuring appropriate guardrails and human oversight.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
