Quality Engineer
Location: Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality digital products, improving software reliability, and embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle? We are seeking a Quality Engineer to champion quality-first engineering practices, drive test strategy and automation initiatives, and ensure exceptional digital experiences across web and mobile platforms. This role works closely with cross-functional product squads to build robust testing solutions, improve release confidence, and enable continuous delivery of secure, resilient, and customer-focused products.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Test Leadership
- Define and implement comprehensive testing strategies across unit, component, API, integration, and end-to-end testing layers.
- Establish quality standards, testing frameworks, and best practices across multiple Agile product teams.
- Ensure quality is embedded early in the software development lifecycle through shift-left testing approaches.
- Assess testing coverage and identify opportunities to improve product reliability and customer experience.
Test Automation & Quality Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites for web, mobile, API, and backend services.
- Implement and enhance automated testing frameworks using industry-standard tools and technologies.
- Create scalable test automation solutions that support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
- Improve test execution efficiency, coverage, and defect detection through automation and innovation.
Mobile & Digital Product Testing
- Lead testing efforts for mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms.
- Validate functionality, usability, accessibility, compatibility, and performance across multiple devices and environments.
- Support cross-platform testing initiatives that ensure a seamless digital customer experience.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to proactively identify and resolve quality risks.

Agile Collaboration & Delivery Support
- Partner with engineers, product managers, designers, and architects throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Provide quality-focused input during requirements gathering, design discussions, and solution development.
- Act as a quality advocate within cross-functional squads.
Coaching & Quality Enablement
- Mentor development teams on testing best practices, automation strategies, and quality engineering principles.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
- Guide teams on CI/CD integration, quality metrics, and effective testing approaches.
- Support adoption of modern testing methodologies and tooling across the organization.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Drive improvements in testing frameworks, tooling, processes, and quality standards.
- Lead initiatives related to performance testing, accessibility testing, security testing, and service resilience validation.
- Explore and implement AI-driven testing approaches to improve coverage, efficiency, and defect identification.
- Evaluate emerging quality engineering technologies and recommend adoption where beneficial.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in both manual and automated software testing across complex applications.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, quality assurance practices, and test lifecycle management.
- Experience testing web-based and mobile applications.
- Knowledge of iOS and Android application testing.
- Experience defining and implementing testing strategies within Agile environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated test frameworks.
- Knowledge of API testing, integration testing, and service validation approaches.
- Experience coaching developers and engineering teams on quality practices.
- Understanding of performance, security, accessibility, and resilience testing concepts.
- Exposure to AI-enabled testing and quality engineering innovations.
