The Hartlepool Site

The Hartlepool Site, which employs 130 staff, provides technology-focused manufacturing including PCB assembly, box build, test and the integration of design-led connectivity and power solutions.

Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer will support the Quality function within a PCBA manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on Industrial, Medical and Aerospace standards. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with customer, regulatory, and certification requirements while driving continuous improvement and the quality culture across the site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective/preventive action activities for both internal and external quality issues using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Analyse production defects, customer returns, and failure trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Conduct and participate in internal, customer, and supplier audits.
  • Develop, Implement and maintain quality documentation/ procedures including control plans, PFMEA, PPAP/FAIR and process flow documentation.
  • Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to address component and material quality concerns.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support and monitor key quality metrics and generate reports to support operational decision-making.
  • Mentor the Quality Technicians, supporting their development in their roles.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Support customer issue resolution and participate in customer-facing quality discussions when required.
  • Lead by example in ensuring quality is built into everything we do to meet customer needs.

Key Requirements

  • HNC or above in a relevant Engineering Qualification OR time-served experience in previous role.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems (QMS); experience with EN9100 and ISO 13485 is desirable but not essential.
  • Certified ISO 9001 Internal Auditor.
  • Competent in standard quality core tools, i.e. Control Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA SCAR etc.
  • Experience in leading 8D problem solving activities.
  • Ability to identify and lead continuous improvement activities.
  • Excellent facilitator, who is not afraid to challenge in a constructive way.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A ‘completer-finisher’ mentality.
  • Happy to get involved and willing to stand forward to take ownership.

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledge / Experience of ISO 13485 and EN 9100.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610/620.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • APQP and/or NPI experience.
  • Background in Electronics manufacture.
  • SAP knowledge.
