Role Summary
As an embedded member of a cross-functional Scrum Team, you will help prevent defects by applying an engineering-led, risk-based approach throughout the software delivery lifecycle. You will improve the client customer experience through mobile, API and end-to-end automation, early risk identification, fast feedback and evidence-based release decisions.
You will champion shared ownership of quality, provide constructive challenge and engineering insight, and contribute to the wider Quality Engineering community through continuous improvement and responsible AI-assisted engineering.
Role requires - 3 days working from Burgess Hill location.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Engineers, Product Owners and stakeholders to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria and quality risks early.
- Define risk-based test approaches covering functional and non-functional requirements.
- Design, maintain and integrate automated tests for mobile applications, APIs and end-to-end customer journeys within CI/CD pipelines.
- Perform exploratory, integration, regression, compatibility and usability testing across relevant devices, operating systems and environments.
- Validate service integrations, data flows, error handling and third-party dependencies through API and contract testing.
- Investigate and communicate defects using reproducible evidence; use logs, results, metrics and production insights to diagnose failures and assess quality.
- Promote shift-left quality, testability, peer review and shared ownership within the Scrum Team.
- Contribute reusable frameworks, engineering standards and continuous improvement across the Quality Engineering community.
- Use AI-assisted engineering responsibly to improve test design, automation, analysis and productivity with appropriate human oversight.

Required Skills and Experience
- Good experience in Quality Engineering, software testing or an equivalent role within Agile delivery.
- Hands-on experience testing mobile applications and backend APIs, and developing maintainable automated test suites using a modern programming language and suitable frameworks.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, testing principles, defect management and risk-based testing.
- Experience with source control, build tools and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A collaborative, customer-focused mindset with shared accountability for reliability, usability, accessibility and overall product quality.

Preferred
- Experience with native or cross-platform mobile automation tools, device or emulator testing, RESTful services, API automation, and service virtualisation or mocking.
- Exposure to performance, security, accessibility, visual or resilience testing, with experience diagnosing issues through logs, network traces, observability tools or analytics.
- Knowledge of cloud-based test environments, containerised delivery or distributed systems, and governed use of generative AI or intelligent automation.
- Understanding of regulated, financial services or other high-assurance environments.
