Quality Engineer – Structural Steel & Civils
Location: Slough
Contract: Outside IR35
Rate: Depending on experience
An established construction project is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer with a strong background in structural steel and/or civils to join the team.
This is a hands-on site-based role for someone who can hit the ground running, take ownership of quality and proactively drive issues through to resolution. Previous data centre experience is not essential.
The role
You will be involved in the day-to-day quality management of the works, working closely with construction, logistics, design teams, contractors, and the client.
Responsibilities will include:
- Attending daily coordination and planning meetings.
- Planning and carrying out site inspections.
- Reviewing drawings and identifying design or approval issues.
- Ensuring works are being completed against approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Managing and progressing W1 and W2 walkdowns.
- Coordinating FOK (First of Kind) inspections and ensuring works are accepted before progressing.
- Using systems such as Procore and ACC to maintain quality records and visibility.
- Working closely with contractors to ensure inspections are booked and completed.
- Identifying issues proactively rather than waiting for problems to be raised.
- Challenging the construction team where necessary to keep inspections and handovers moving.
- Checking that installations meet the required specification, including materials, fixings, equipment, finishes, and workmanship.
- Raising issues with the appropriate design teams and helping drive them through the approval process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
