FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking Senior Quality Engineers to work with our global systems integrator client, supporting a major enterprise technology modernisation programme. You will play a key role in assuring the quality of critical digital services that support high-volume business processes and essential public-facing services.
This is initially a 5 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a remote role with occasional travel to client site in Telford.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the modernisation of a large-scale legacy platform, helping to improve resilience, maintainability, security, and operational performance through the adoption of modern Quality Engineering practices, automation frameworks, and DevOps-driven testing approaches.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineering professional who enjoys hands-on testing, driving quality across multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams, and implementing scalable test automation solutions within complex enterprise environments.
About the Role
We are seeking Senior Quality Engineers to design, implement, and support quality assurance solutions as part of a large-scale technology transformation programme.
The role is delivery-focused, supporting the modernisation of a long-established business-critical platform through the implementation of robust testing strategies, automation frameworks, and quality engineering practices. You will be responsible for ensuring quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle, enabling teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions aligned with programme objectives.
You will form part of a blended delivery team working alongside client and consultancy stakeholders, contributing to the successful delivery of multiple workstreams within a dynamic programme environment. The role will involve both hands-on testing activities and the coaching of wider engineering teams to adopt quality-first approaches.
Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing test strategies, test frameworks, and automated testing solutions from the ground up
- Supporting the modernisation and enhancement of critical enterprise platforms through Quality Engineering best practices
- Embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle and promoting shift-left testing approaches
- Developing and maintaining automated test suites across functional, integration, system, and end-to-end testing layers
- Supporting teams in adopting Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) practices
- Applying risk-based testing methodologies to ensure appropriate test coverage and risk mitigation
- Collaborating with developers to ensure applications are designed and built for automated testing
- Supporting CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated quality gates into delivery processes
- Performing exploratory and manual testing where automation is not appropriate
- Creating, managing, and maintaining test data and test environments
- Supporting non-functional testing activities, including performance, accessibility, and security testing
- Producing and maintaining high-quality testing documentation, evidence, and reporting
- Coaching and mentoring delivery teams to improve Quality Engineering capability
- Ensuring testing activities align with programme governance, quality standards, and delivery objectives
- Providing progress updates and delivering testing activities within agreed timelines

About You
- Strong commercial experience in Quality Engineering, software testing, and test automation
- Experience implementing automated testing approaches across Agile delivery teams
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and quality engineering within DevOps environments
- Experience working with Git-based source control and collaborative development practices
- Experience testing Java and Spring-based applications
- Strong understanding of modern software testing methodologies and quality assurance principles
- Experience applying risk-based testing approaches and test design techniques
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks and automated quality tooling
- Experience working across multiple test levels, including integration, system, and end-to-end testing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven stakeholder management and team engagement skills
- Experience coaching and mentoring multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Quality-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Adaptable and able to context-switch across multiple priorities and workstreams
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments
Nice to Have
- Experience working within large-scale modernisation or transformation programmes
- Experience with JUnit and automated unit testing approaches
- Experience using Playwright for browser-based automation testing
- Experience with performance testing tools such as Gatling
- Knowledge of security testing tools including OWASP ZAP
- Experience using SonarQube for code quality and coverage analysis
- Experience using GitHub Copilot within engineering workflows
- Knowledge of service virtualisation and API testing tools such as WireMock
- Experience with accessibility testing tools including WAVE and Axe
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker container platforms
- Experience testing distributed microservices architectures
- Experience working with AWS cloud services
- Knowledge of OpenAPI specifications and API testing approaches
- Strong understanding of WCAG accessibility standards
- Experience with Cucumber, Gherkin, and BDD testing techniques
- Experience using Selenium test automation frameworks
- Experience working within regulated or security-conscious environments
- Experience promoting Agile Quality Engineering and continuous testing practices
