The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job Overview

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 9 months until August 2027 to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

To support both our programme of Quality Improvement (QI) capability building across the Health Board and to increase the understanding of how Quality Improvement functions in a modern healthcare Quality Management System.

To provide leadership for our QI capacity building agenda, particularly for short training sessions and linking with local Qi groups, ensuring this fits within our overarching capability strategy.

To provide key QI expertise, leadership and support to embed Quality Improvement as a daily practice across the wider service. To help staff define and deliver sustainable and measurable outcomes that align with the priorities of the Organisation.

To apply advanced QI coaching and facilitation skills in supporting multi-disciplinary teams and individuals at all levels, helping them problem solve and develop their own improvement capabilities.

Consolidate learning from across the programme in building local evidence base and insights to further ongoing planning developments.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a keen individual interesting in undertaking a secondment Quality Improvement Advisor role within the ABCi Quality Improvement Unit. Training will be provided to develop individuals in this role, which will also be beneficial for future career development

The role is to support teams especially within certain divisions across the Health Board in developing Quality Improvement Capability. QI Capability is about embedding the practise of Quality Improvement (QI) as part of normal operational roles.

The post holder will take a lead on coordinating and running short training session and will support training such as ‘PocEd QI’ introductory skills training that is delivered virtually via Teams

The post holder will work alongside leaders and teams to advise and coach on complex problem solving and applying QI in practise

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Qualified to Masters’ level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Relevant recognised qualification in Improvement Methodology

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching /Training Qualification
  • Project management Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Complex data analysis (specifically using statistical Process Control) and reporting for a wide audience
  • Expertise in coaching and mentoring individuals and teams in improvement methodologies
  • Expertise in teaching, presentation, and facilitation of multi-professional groups of all levels
  • Experience in leading quality improvement work
  • Experience in delivering training & coaching remotely via MS Teams, Zoom, etc.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of records management & information systems
