Job Description
The purpose of this role is to be responsible for adherence to the quality systems and the requirement of all accreditation statuses for the relevant laboratories. To inspire and drive a culture of outstanding quality to exceed the requirements of our customers and embrace our core organisational values.
Please note this is a fixed term contract ending 31/10/2027. Working part time, 18.75 hours per week, with the flexibility to work these hours across Monday to Friday between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance of accreditation to ISO 17025, plus other accreditations and approvals where appropriate for the Laboratories.
- Ensure that the requirements of UKAS, business and customers are met within the scope of the accredited laboratory.
- Participate and facilitate external laboratory audits. Including the submission of pre-audit information and ensure that corrective actions are completed and submitted to the relevant body within the timescale required.
- Maintain the document control system for site specific documentation, prepare and amend quality documentation as required.
- Lead and monitor the internal audit programme to ensure audits are performed effectively and in accordance with the audit plan, time and applicable standard. Carry out system audits and ensure the method witness schedule is adhered to.
- Monitor and verify the completion of any nonconformities raised during internal and external auditing, and during routine laboratory operations by the responsible parties, through regular follow up and verification.
- Raise non-conforming work issues related to Quality and investigate using root cause.
- Monitor and verify timely investigation of customer complaints and client queries in conjunction with the laboratory management team.
- Review overall performance in Internal and External Quality Control.
- Evaluate investigations into failures, trend and bias to ensure that they have been appropriately investigated to establish root cause, impact on customer results and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure that all equipment records, calibration and monitoring are completed by designated laboratory personnel. Review calibration records to ensure equipment is fit for purpose and compliant with quality standards.
- Coordinate equipment commissioning and any external calibrations in line with quality requirements.
- Monitor and review performance of laboratory quality control checks, for example AQC, DPC and environmental monitoring.
- Coordinate the annual management review meeting, collate required quality information and trend analysis. Ensure actions are effectively managed and progressed.
- Report up to the Group Quality Managers and/or Director of Technical and Quality, without delay, any issues affecting quality in the laboratories.
- Provide the monthly Quality KPI report to the site management, the Director of Technical and Quality and the Technical and Group Microbiology Quality Managers.
- Report Quality Metric data monthly within the deadline specified.
- Train laboratory staff in quality inductions, ISO17025, relevant retailer requirements and auditing where applicable.
- Build relationships with laboratory staff; engage laboratory staff in the purpose, their responsibilities and use of the quality system; consult and communicate change to staff.
- Any other duties necessary to ensure the quality of results and service to the customers as designated by the Group Quality Manager/ Director of Technical and Quality.

Qualifications
- Excellent working knowledge of the requirements of ISO17025.
- Proven experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
- Working experience in quality and/or quality control function.
- Proven experience of working in a quality role.
- Good auditing skills e.g. not swayed, or diverted, be inquisitive etc.
- A degree in chemistry /microbiology or related discipline, or equivalent laboratory experience would be desirable.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills with strong IT proficiency.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
- Must have a ‘can do’ attitude and be able to deliver change through people management skills.
